Lip Rejuvenation – All Treatments
There are several lip rejuvenation treatments that work to give your lips a younger, smoother appearance. Depending on the shape of your lips and desired results, you may only need one of the following treatments, or a few different procedures to obtain your desired resultaesthetic goal.
Dr. Deschamps-Braly and the Ousterhout team can help you decide which treatment is right for you to gain a natural-looking and beautiful result. On your initial consultation, they will outline all relevant options and explain each procedure in detail.
Perioral Dermabrasion to reduce lines around the mouth
Fine lines and wrinkles may appear around the mouth as a result of the natural aging process and/or smoking. These lines may sometimes be called “smoker’s lips” or “lipstick lines” because they radiate out from the lips and into the surrounding skin.
Perioral Dermabrasion reduces the appearance of these fine lines by actually removing several layers of skin. This process of skin removal stimulates collagen production resulting in smoother skin texture and lessening of wrinkles and lines.
The procedure is performed by your plastic surgeon in the operating room, or by his physician’s assistant or cosmetic nurse as an in-office day procedure.
Perioral Dermabrasion may be performed under a local anesthetic, but it is often combined with other cosmetic surgical procedures. Any post-treatment pain or discomfort can be treated with non-prescription pain medication such as Tylenol or Aleve.
Healing takes 7-10 days during which you will notice an immediate and visible improvement. Some redness may occur post-procedure, but this fades over the next few weeks leaving you with smoother and younger looking skin around the lips.
Fat Grafts (Fat Transfer) for surgical lip augmentation
Your lips may also be augmented with Fat Grafts (also know as autologous fat transplantation or micro-liposuction). This is a surgical procedure wherein your plastic surgeon harvests your body’s own fat (usually from the abdomen) and injects it into your lips at multiple insertion points to create fuller and plumper lips.
Fat Grafting for lips is very popular because it is very natural – using your body’s own fat rather than any artificial or chemically-based material that is grown in a lab. Artificial fillers are also often re-absorbed by the body meaning frequent repeat injections. They may also feel unnatural and can sometimes be seen through the skin, whereas Fat Grafts have permanent results in most people.

Restylane® Silk filler for lip augmentation
Lip augmentation is an injectable, non-surgical treatment that plumps and “augments” the lips with a dermal filler to improve their appearance. Lip augmentation works to increase lip volume and reduce fine lines and lip wrinkles.
Hyaluronic acid is a safe, natural and long-lasting substance for injecting into the lips. There are many hyaluronic acid lip fillers available on the market today, but we use and recommend Restylane Silk® because it has the most consistent results.
The hyaluronic acid in Restylane Silk® boosts lip volume, improves structure, and most critically, improves the overall shape of the lips. This is why it crucial to have a skilled plastic surgeon, his physician’s assistant, or cosmetic nurse inject the Restylane Silk® – to ensure a natural-looking result that works harmoniously with your unique facial features.

BOTOX® Cosmetic or Dysport® for smile lines
BOTOX® and Dysport® area very popular treatments for winkles and smile lines – for a good reason: they are safe, effective and long-lasting. When injected with the correct skill and artistry, BOTOX® and Dysport® results in a very natural-looking result.
BOTOX® and Dysport® work by blocking nerve impulses and relaxing the the tiny muscles that cause wrinkles. With a skilled aesthetic specialist, the degree of treatment is easily controlled ensuring that you’ll still be able to smile naturally without your face appearing frozen, or as if you’ve had obvious “work done”.

Lip Lift or Lip Reduction
If you feel that your upper or lower lips are disproportionate or too large, a Lip Lift or Lip Reduction may be suitable for you. A lip lift may also improve your overall facial appearance by allowing you to show more of your upper teeth when smiling – contributing to a rejuvenated and much younger look.
The lip lift may be performed under local or general anesthesia depending on your own comfort level and also the extent of the procedure. At your initial consultation our surgeon will recommend the type of anesthesia to suit your procedure.
The lip lift procedure on an upper lip involves an incision at the base of the nose and the removal of a section of skin. The incisions are hidden in the natural creases beneath the nostrils, leaving no obvious scarring.
For the lower lip, the procedure involves creating a horizontal incision on the inside of the lip, removing excess tissue and fat, then suturing with no visible scarring.
